Importing Car into Cuba - part 2

VEHICLES, ENGINES AND CARS BODY SHELLS

Persons authorized to import automotive vehicles in our country are the ones

listed in
Decree No. 40, RULES ON IMPORTS OF AUTOMOTIVE VEHICLES

NOT INCLUDED IN STATE PLANS AND PASS OF PROPERTY, from

February 22, 1979.

As light vehicles are considered those up two tons weight ,including cars,

jeeps, trucks, pick ups and motor cycles which import is developed out of the

state plans and in a definitive manner.

Who are the ones authorized for this import?

Persons Entity that authorizes the import

a) Branches of Foreign Mercantile Societies,

Travel Agencies, Bank and Financial

Representations and their representatives.

Chamber of Commerce of the

Republic of Cuba

b) Foreign specialists working in Cuba in virtue

of contracts and covenants with national entities

and organisms.

Ministry of Foreign Trade

c) Entities or organizations both, with national

and foreign composition, supported by

Covenants of Economic Cooperation, scientific

and technologic agreements with international

agencies, given that they use the vehicles to

fulfill tasks that originated the Contract.

Ministry of Foreign Trade and

Foreign Investment

d) Foreign Press Agencies and foreign

journalists

Ministry of Foreign Affairs

e)Organizations with social, political or scientific

activities, refugees and political refugees.

Associated body

f) foreign tourists.

Non-compliance with the legal provisions of customs regulations shall result in the application

of corresponding administrative measures


The persons who enter Cuba as tourists can temporarily import a vehicle

under the terms and conditions that follow (this information appears in

the link referring to TOURISTS)

Clearance Customs authorizes the regime for up to thirty (30) days, considering

the visa time.

The authorization shall be granted immediately, after the tourist submits: the

visa, the passport and all documents related to the vehicle with the Bill of

Landing or the Air Way Bill, in correspondence with the case.

The tourist is obliged to re export the vehicle in the period of time granted and

always before or in the moment when leaving the country.

TOURISTS, ARRIVING IN THE COUNTRY ON BOARD OF RECREATION

BOATS THROUGH TOURISM MARINAS:

Customs offices authorize the temporary import of a vehicle by a period that

can not exceed 6 months.

The vehicle must be carried on board of the vessel.

The tourist is obliged to re export the vehicle when the term matures (6

months). If in maturity the vessel is still in the Marina, the vehicle is to be kept

on board and so is considered re exported.

If the tourist goes overseas on board of the boat, the vehicle has to be re

exported in all circumstances.

OTHER PASSENGERS CATEGORIES

Automotive vehicles import is not accepted by any other individual not

mentioned in the previous item.

It is not accepted the import of automotive vehicles’ engines and cars

body shells or any motorcycles frames, with any capacity, by individuals

or by any other mean.
